While Oppo is about to reveal a potential smartphone with 10X zoom, Vivo appears to be releasing a new smartphone concept that’s code-named “The Waterdrop”. The Chinese smartphone maker had posted a teaser image which appears to be a twisted water droplet.
The teaser doesn’t reveal much and Vivo’s Weibo account had posed the question “what’s the future of smartphones?” Then it mentions about ditching complexities for something natural.
The Vivo event will take place on 24th January 2019, which is next Thursday. From what we are seeing, this could be a new concept design smartphone similar to the Vivo APEX which featured a new full-screen smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor. The APEX concept that was introduced last year also came with an elevating selfie camera and eventually, this evolved into the Vivo NEX.
Serial leakster, Ice Universe, had dropped a couple of leaks of the “Waterdrop” Vivo device. From the images, it looks like it has an all unibody glass build that has no sharp edges. Even the side view looks somewhat like the original Honor Magic but without any metal frames to interrupt the flow.
Could this be a 100% glass smartphone? We don’t know. Could it feature dual-screen? Maybe, or maybe not. Since the current smartphone trend is moving towards having a larger screen-to-body ratio without the notch, we are guessing that Vivo could do something groundbreaking to stretch the display further to the edges.
Recently, Vivo had announced a newer NEX that comes with Dual Displays. Perhaps, this “Waterdrop” device could be an all-new NEX model for 2019. What do you think? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
