Google’s Night Sight is a big deal because you can take really, really, really good low-light photos without the need to use a tripod. The feature is available for Google’s Pixel range of devices specifically the original Pixel, the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 3. If you don’t have a Pixel, sorry, Night Sight is not for you. That is, until now.
Thanks to XDA Senior Member Arnova8G2 over at the XDA Developers community, who has successfully ported the Google Camera software with Night Sight included, you can now have the feature on your phone – provided that your phone is either the Huawei Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro or Honor Play. But hey, something is always better than nothing, right?
But before you go downloading and installing the app on your Huawei, some fair warning, the app is a port and has been modified slightly to work with a device that it wasn’t originally intended for so, expect it to be rough around the edges and maybe buggy at times. Apparently, the port doesn’t work so well with Mate 10 Pro running EMUI 9.0, for example.
One thing I want to point out, while Night Sight is great, Google’s not the first one to roll out a camera software that can take really good pictures in low light. Huawei has had a similar feature called ‘Night Mode‘ first in the P20 Pro and P20 that was launched in March, and then in a lot of their other phones since then. The Mate 20 series has it, even a few newer Honor phones has Night Mode too and the results in terms of enhancing images taken in low light are pretty much the same as what Google achieved with Night Sight. So, it’s not really new.
