Is Xiaomi launching something on December 24?

Barely a week after Xiaomi teased its 48MP camera smartphone, another interesting clue has surfaced on the Chinese social media platform, Weibo. The information could be related or unrelated to the 48MP phone, all we know is that Xiaomi might be introducing a new product in its line-up. Judging by the name, we think it could be a budget gaming-centric smartphone.

Recently, a Weibo user posted that Xiaomi will be unveiling…something. We can’t say with any confidence that it is a smartphone but it is likely to carry the name Xiaomi Play. The user says that the device will be announced on December 24.

Judging by the name itself, one may assume that the Xiaomi Play is targeted towards mobile gamers, though the specs of the device are yet to be known. However, it is important to note that Xiaomi already has its Black Shark range of gaming smartphones but that’s more for the high-end market. Xiaomi Play could be a cheaper alternative.

That being said, the purported Xiaomi Play, if it is indeed a smartphone, is likely to be a strong rival against the HONOR Play which was launched in Malaysia back in August this year with a price tag of RM1,249. The HONOR Play is also powered by a flagship-level Kirin 970 processor.

However, since Xiaomi has made no official announcement on the device just yet, take all this as just rumours at the moment.
