Huawei is expected to unveil its new Nova 4 smartphone early next week and this is their first device to feature a cut-out-hole for the front selfie camera. The device was shown live at a celebrity event several weeks ago but its sub-brand, honor, had claimed to be the first to introduce this type of all-screen display yesterday.
The Nova series is often positioned as Huawei’s selfie-centric smartphone. For the next model, it appears that the Nova 4 will be the first in their lineup to feature a high-resolution 48MP camera at the rear.
The Nova 4 was spotted on China’s TENAA certification database with the model number VCE-AL00 and VCE-TL00. The front looks similar to what we’ve seen earlier and it comes with a noticeable chin at the bottom.
The back of the device uses a similar 2 + 1 triple-camera layout as the P20 Pro and we can also clearly see a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. If you look the printed text at the rear, you can roughly see “48MP AI Camera”.
This is likely to be the same Sony IMX586 sensor that was introduced with the new Honor V20. With AI assistance and 4-in-1 pixel binning, the 48MP camera is capable of capturing high-detailed 12MP photos. Apart from Huawei, Xiaomi is also planning to release a smartphone with a 48MP camera early next year.
It is no secret that both Huawei and Honor share similar hardware with each other. For example, the current Nova 3 is quite similar to the Honor Play but with some differences in camera, RAM, storage and materials used for its exterior.
The Nova 4 is expected to run on the top of the line Kirin 980 processor and it is speculated to come with a 6.4″ screen and a 3,900mAh battery. The device is scheduled to be unveiled on 17 December in China. Below are a couple of Nova 4 teasers shared on Huawei’s Weibo account.
