The original Star Wars films gets retold in a series of animated shorts just for kids

The original Star Wars movies (episodes four, five and six) are arguably the best in the cinematic saga but they are not exactly suitable for kids.

Still, if you ever wanted to share that Star Wars moment with your kids, soon you’ll be able to.

Disney will be releasing a series of animated shorts based on the original Star Wars films. The first six of the series will debut November 30th on the Star Wars Kids YouTube channel which was created specifically for the series.

The six shorts combine original dialogue, music, and sound effects with new animations, and fun and educational add-ons designed to help older fans, parents, and other mentors to welcome the kids in their lives to explore the galaxy far, far away, according to starwars.com.

Additional shorts featuring fan-favorite characters will debut in December, with regular releases following in 2019.

“With Galaxy of Adventures, we wanted to craft something that allowed parents to help their kids take their first step into a much larger world whether they were ready to show their kids the films or wanted to find new ways to explore the content,” James Waugh, Lucasfilm’s vice president for franchise content and strategy, tells the website.

Stories told just for kids

The series is designed to cater for how children consume content especially on mobile devices.

The stories will be bite-sized. This gives the creative team behind the new series the chance to play around in the Star Wars galaxy. “It allows us to really drill into moments, to tell simple stories, unencumbered by the needs of a traditional narrative structure — it’s allowing the creators to play more, experiment more,” Waugh says.

“With Episode IX coming in December, and being the conclusion of the Skywalker saga — the long journey over 40 years of storytelling comes to its end. Galaxy of Adventures walks through the great moments and themes of the stories that led us here and introduces a new generation to them, in time for many to see this finale,” said Waugh.
