Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro and Mi 8 Lite are officially on sale in Malaysia tomorrow

As teased by Xiaomi earlier this week, the new Mi 8 Pro and Mi 8 Lite will be finally available in Malaysia starting tomorrow, 10 November 2018. The Mi 8 Pro is the global version of the radical looking Mi 8 Explorer Edition, while the Mi 8 Lite is their new mid-range contender that’s priced from under RM1,000.

Mi 8 Pro

At first glance, the Mi 8 Pro is essentially a Mi 8 with a cool looking transparent glass back. It features a 6.21″ AMOLED display with a notch that pushes a Full HD+ resolution.

Under the hood, it runs on a top of the line Snapdragon 845 processor. For Malaysia, we are getting a single configuration that offers 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage. Like any Mi device, there’s no expandable storage.

For taking photos, it packs a 12MP f/1.8 + 12MP f/2.4 dual camera combo at the rear which offers 2X optical zoom and bokeh portrait effects. For selfies, it gets a 20MP front camera upfront.

Unlike the Mi 8 Explorer Edition, it doesn’t come with 3D face unlock, however, it uses the same Infrared Face Unlock like the standard Mi 8. On the display, it also gets a pressure sensitive in-display fingerprint sensor.

The Mi 8 Pro comes with a rather tiny 3,000mAh battery but it does support Quick Charge 4+ charging via USB-C.

The Mi 8 Pro for Malaysia only comes in Transparent Titanium and it is officially priced at RM2,399. You can get it starting tomorrow, 10 November at Authorised Mi Stores throughout Malaysia.

If you haven’t seen it yet, you can check out our hands-on with the Mi 8 Explorer Edition.

Mi 8 Lite

If you’re looking for something more affordable, the Mi 8 Lite features a 6.26″ Full HD+ LCD that comes with a notch. Under the hood, it runs on a Snapdragon 660 processor and it comes in two spec options – 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage.

The Mi 8 Lite features a 12MP f/1.9 main camera and a secondary 5MP sensor for depth of field effects. For selfies, it gets a 24MP front shooter with 4-in-1 pixel binning.

Powering the Mi 8 Lite is a modest 3,350mAh battery which supports Quick Charge 3.0 via USB-C. Unfortunately, it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack like its bigger Mi 8 siblings.

The Mi 8 Lite will go on sale starting 10 November and it comes in either Aurora Blue and Midnight Black. The base 4GB RAM + 64GB storage model is priced at RM999 and it will be available on Shopee Online Store on 10 November, followed by Lazada Online Store on 11 November.

The higher spec 6GB RAM + 128GB storage version is priced at RM1,299 and it will be exclusively available at authorised Mi Stores.
