Lenovo Z5 Pro is another all-screen slider smartphone that’s more affordable than the Mi MIX 3

It’s certainly raining slider phones in China. Following the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 and honor Magic 2, Lenovo has just announced their Z5 Pro. Unlike the rest, Lenovo is focusing on affordability and the Z5 Pro is a premium mid-range device that costs almost half the price of the MIX 3 and Magic 2.

In case you didn’t remember, the original Lenovo Z5 was initially teased as an all-screen edge-to-edge smartphone but it turns out to come with a notch and it looks like a Huawei P20. The new Z5 Pro comes with a 6.39″ Super AMOLED display from Samsung that pushes a Full HD+ resolution of 2340×1080 in a tall 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Lenovo claims to have a screen to body ratio of 95.06% which is probably the highest on a smartphone.

Instead of a Snapdragon 845 processor, the Z5 Pro is powered by a respectable Snapdragon 710 unit with 6GB of RAM. Onboard storage comes in either 64GB or 128GB. Similar to the Magic 2, it also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The Z5 Pro has dual-selfie cameras that are hidden in a manual slider mechanism. It has a 16MP + 8MP infrared dual-camera combo upfront which has a host of beautification features and it supports IR face unlock.

At the rear, it gets a 24MP + 16MP dual-camera setup which has an aperture of f/1.8 and it supports 4K video recording. For better low light performance, the 24MP camera has a 4-in-1 pixel binning feature which increases its effective pixel size.

Powering the Z5 Pro is a modest 3,350mAh battery which charges via USB-C. It comes with NFC as well as Dolby Atmos support, however, it doesn’t come with a headphone jack. In terms of OS, it is listed with Android Oreo with ZUI 10.0 skin on top.

The Lenovo Z5 Pro is listed in China for 1,998CNY (about RM1,206) for the 64GB storage model and 2,298CNY (about RM1,387) for 128GB of storage. Although it’s a Snapdragon 710 processor, the Z5 Pro is quite competitive for an all-screen slider phone. If you hate moving parts, you might want to check out the Nubia X which comes with two screens.
