This is the all new iPad Pro 12.9 for 2018

Apple will reveal several products tomorrow evening and one of it is the new iPad Pro. This will be the most radical redesign yet similar to how the iPhone X had changed their smartphone appearance moving forward.

According to serial leakster @Onleaks which had also provided clear renders to MySmartPrice, the new iPad Pro will still come in two sizes – 10.5″ and 12.9″. Both will be the first iPad models to have a “bezel-less” screen that comes with a symmetrical edge to edge design with rounded corners. To achieve this ultra-thin bezel look, the traditional home button with Touch ID has been removed and it’s replaced by Face ID similar to the latest iPhone models.

On the latest iPhone XS, Face ID still doesn’t work in landscape mode and hopefully, Apple will address this on the latest iPad since it’s going to be used in landscape mode a lot.

In terms of exterior design, it looks more chunky compared to the current iPad models. The sides of the tablet appear to the completely flat like the sides of an iPhone 5 with no noticeable tapering. Do note that this is a 3rd party render, so the actual product might be different from what you’re seeing here. Over at the rear, it still comes with a single camera, and hopefully, they will carry over the latest 12MP shooter from the iPhone XR with Smart HDR.

As you would expect from Apple, they have also removed the 3.5mm headphone jack but surprisingly, the iPad Pro will be using USB-C instead of a lightning port. Apparently, this was necessary as the new iPad Pro will be able to output 4K HDR video to external displays. Since it’s USB-C, there’s a chance that it could also support fast charging via a compatible USB-C PD power adapter. Like previous iPad Pro models, it will come with a quad speaker setup.

The iPad Pro 2018 will continue to utilise a True Tone IPS LCD Retina display with a 120Hz ProMotion for a fluid visual experience. Under the hood, it is said to be running on a more powerful Apple A12X octa-core chip that’s based on a 7nm process. It will be more powerful than the A12 chip on the latest iPhone XS and it’s also expected to come with 4GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage.

As a comparison, the current 2nd iPad Pro runs on an Apple A10X Fusion hexa-core chip with 4GB of RAM. Apart from the tablet, Apple is expected to announce a newer Pencil stylus and it will still likely to be sold separately.

While the Macs are the real computing machine, Apple has positioned the new iPad Pro models are a viable computer replacement. You can attach an optional magnetic smart keyboard cover, and you can do almost all essential computer stuff from web browsing, word processing, illustrating and even video editing in a portable form factor that still promises up to 10 hours of battery life.

The Apple event is taking place at 10AM EDT on Tuesday, which is 10PM Malaysian time. Apart from the new iPad, the Cupertino company is expected to introduce new Mac products including a possible replacement for the ageing MacBook Air.
