Dear Customers

You may experience disruptions for Postpaid & Prepaid voice services in scattered areas, nationwide. You can still make voice calls on messaging apps such as Whatsapp. Our tech team is working hard to restore these services by 6:00pm today, 19 Oct 2018.

Just a while ago, Celcom has acknowledged there was a network outage that started around 2:30pm which affected incoming and outgoing calls. Meaning you won’t be able to make calls to and receive calls from Celcom numbers. This issue is also affected telcos that are on a domestic roaming partnership with Celcom. Example if you’re using Unifi mobile and you’re outside of Unifi mobile coverage area then you’ll have a problem when making and receiving calls.

Celcom has made an announcement about the service outage via their official Facebook and Twitter pages. In the meantime, Celcom recommends that its customers make phone calls using messaging apps that support voice calls over data, such as Whatsapp.

Celcom had apologised for any inconvenience caused and they will update as soon as it has been rectified. They’ve also added that they are working hard on this issue and will try their very best to restore these services by 6:00pm today.

Update 6.15pm: Celcom has just confirmed on Twitter that you may still experience service disruptions, but they’re working to get everything sorted by 8pm.

Hi! You may still experience disruptions for Postpaid & Prepaid voice services in scattered areas, nationwide. Alternatively, you can still make voice calls on messaging apps such as Whatsapp. Our tech team is working hard to restore these services by 8:00pm today.

That said, when I tried calling my colleague — who is also on Celcom Prepaid — in our office in Petaling Jaya, the call went through with no disruptions. Is the service back up for you? Let us know in the comments!
