OnePlus 6T teaser confirms removal of one of its most loved features

The OnePlus will be unveiling a new flagship smartphone in the next few weeks. Unlike the previous OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5T, the upcoming OnePlus 6T will come with significant changes on its design and it will be their largest device yet. Ahead of its big event, OnePlus has released a teaser which confirms a new major feature and an omission of a fan favourite.

From the video below, the OnePlus 6T will definitely come with an in-screen fingerprint sensor which is similar to vivo’s NEX and V11 series. This allows the OnePlus 6T to come with a clean looking back design but that could also mean that unlocking the device won’t be as quick as a traditional fingerprint sensor. Alternatively, you should be able to unlock the device faster with face unlock.

If we look at the bottom of the device, you’ll notice that it also lacks a headphone jack, a standard feature that’s always included in every OnePlus flagship. It’s funny that OnePlus has decided to remove it considering it’s one of the most wanted features as voted by fans in a poll created by co-founder Carl Pei.

During an interview with OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, it was reported that the headphone jack had to go in order to make way for the in-screen fingerprint sensor which they call Screen Unlock. Apparently, the new fingerprint reader takes up essential space near the bottom of the phone and OnePlus is hoping that most of its consumers will switch to wireless headphones. That reasoning is quite hard to accept considering vivo was able to retain the 3.5mm port on its vivo NEX, vivo X21 and Vivo V11 which are also equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

According to serial leakster Roland Quandt, the OnePlus 6T will feature a larger 6.41″ AMOLED display with a small notch as shown above. Under the hood, it runs on the same Snapdragon 845 processor with up to 8GB of RAM like the current OnePlus 6. Instead of a triple-camera setup like the OPPO R17 Pro, the OnePlus 6T will settle for a dual-camera setup.

Apart from having a larger screen, the device is expected to come with a larger 3,700mAh battery which also supports fast charging. Out of the box, the OnePlus 6T is likely to run on the latest Android 9.0 Pie with OxygenOS skin on top.

If you thought the current OnePlus 6 is pricey, do expect to pay more for the OnePlus 6T. According to Pete Lau, prices don’t dictate the end product and their priority is to give people the latest and greatest in tech. From the past few releases, it’s clear that OnePlus is no longer the flagship killer it once was and that title has gone to POCOPHONE with its flagship hardware at mid-range price proposition.
