The Dyson Cyclone V10 is now available in Malaysia

Dyson which makes one of the best cordless vacuum cleaners in the world has just unveiled the latest Cyclone V10 series in the region. We’ve attended the launch event yesterday at their manufacturing facility in the Philippines and it’s going on sale in Malaysia starting today.

What’s fascinating about the Cyclone V10 is that it isn’t just an improvement for cordless vacuums. It marks a new breakthrough which could possibly render traditional corded vacuums obsolete.

The new V10 is more powerful, offers a longer battery life and it has a higher capacity for its bin. It’s so advanced that Dyson will no longer develop new full sized corded vacuum cleaners moving forward. If you look at the internals, you’ll be amazed with the amount of engineering that goes into this vacuum cleaner.

Some of you may have heard about James Dyson’s story about his frustration with traditional vacuum cleaners. They are heavy, poor in performance and it loses suction power over time. That drove him to solve a problem that wasn’t solved in decades. Inspired by giant cyclone systems at sawmills, he had developed a similar system for vacuum cleaners and the rest is history.

Powering the latest model is their latest V10 motor and this is the most advance digital motor they’ve made yet. It weighs just 125 grams and produces 525W of power. As a comparison, the previous V8 motor weighs 225 grams and it does 495W.

To make the motor lighter and more powerful, the engineers at Dyson have turned to ceramic for its shaft instead of stainless steel. Cured at 1,600 degree Celsius, ceramic is 3 times harder than steel at half the density. This allows it to spin faster at 125,000RPM and it can withstand heat better so it wouldn’t wobble even with extended usage.

The impeller is also reengineered to channel more air. Each of the overlapping impeller vanes have been redesigned to create a larger surface area and to increase efficiency.

Another new redesign is the bin which now has a “point and shoot” mechanism. The whole contraption now looks like a toy gun and you can empty the bin by pulling the “trigger” at the front. Since the head is relatively small, you can empty it directly into a rubbish bin without getting your hands dirty.

The V10 Fluffy and V10 Absolute come with a 0.54L bin which is the same capacity as the current V8 cordless vacuum cleaner. Meanwhile, the Absolute+ has a larger bin at 0.76L capacity.

On a single charge, the V10 can give you up to 60 minutes of vacuuming time. This should be enough for most people to vacuum the entire house. The V10 comes in 3 speed settings and we’re told that the middle option can last about 30 minutes.

Another benefit to this redesign is a more linear airflow. This increases its Air Watts of suction making it more efficient than its previous V6, V7 and V8 vacuum cleaners.

The advanced V10 digital motor is assembled at the Philippines Advanced Manufacturing plant which runs a 24-hour production with 5 lines. These motors are then shipped to Malaysia for the final assembly of the Cyclone V10 vacuum cleaners. The V10 motors are also assembled in Singapore and they also have a separate facility to assemble the final product in the Philippines.

The Dyson Cyclone V10 series is priced from RM2,699 for the V10 Fluffy which comes with a soft roller cleaning head, combination tool, crevice tool, mini motorised tool and soft dusting brush. Going up a notch is the V10 absolute at RM2,999. It has the same attachments as the V10 Fluffy but it gets an extra direct drive cleaner head.

The top of the line model is the V10 Absolute+ priced at RM3,399. It comes with a larger bin with even more attachments and accessories. This include the soft roller cleaner head, direct drive cleaner head, combination tool, crevice tool, flexi crevice tool, mini motorised tool, soft dusting brush, hose extension and a tool bag.

Yes, it’s quite pricey compared to traditional vacuum cleaners but if you think about it, you are getting the power similar to a full-sized vacuum cleaner in a portable and flexible form factor. Since it’s cordless, you won’t need to worry about finding a power outlet and extension cables when vacuuming the entire home.
