Xiaomi Mi Box gets Android Oreo update with Google Assistant

Xiaomi’s Android TV-powered Mi Box has finally received its Android Oreo update. Apart from having the latest Android TV interface, it also gets better voice search with Google Assistant.

This new update carries the Android version 8.0 and it comes with a newer Android Security patch dated 1st April 2018. The update is about 615MB in size and you can check for it manually under Settings > About > System Updates.

The first thing you’ll notice is the redesigned home screen which puts content upfront. You have a list of channels and it will show its recommended shows and content on each row. There’s also a new task switcher and it’s better at resuming a video or a show that you’ve previously watched halfway.

With the addition of Google Assistant, you can ask more complex questions like you do on a smartphone. You can ask Google for the weather, currency exchange, available flights and traffic information to a specific place.

If you’ve updated to Mi Box to Oreo, do let us know if you like the new interface and features.
