If you’ve read any of my previous Huawei reviews, you’ll know that I’m not a big fan of their software. I’ve always been pretty impressed with the company’s ability to make great smartphone hardware, but EMUI is just not my cup of tea. Yes, it’s better than it was, but that’s not really a high benchmark to begin with.
But, there is a team of developers called OpenKirin and they’ve just launched a brand new site dedicated to helping you get your Huawei/honor device running stock Android.
On OpenKirin’s website, they’ve got an entire list of supported Huawei and honor devices. This list includes a whole bunch of EMUI 8 devices including flagships like the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro and even honor’s View10. Unfortunately, there’s no support for the Huawei P20 series of devices yet.
In the past, XDA reports that OpenKirin’s work has been rather limited, but thanks to the new Project Treble support, the team was able to expand support for more devices.
If you’re interested, you can head on over to the OpenKirin website where you’ll find instructions and the ROMs for you to download. Keep in mind this is not an official Huawei ROM and that you’re doing this at your own risk. We will not be held responsible for any issues that might occur. Proceed at your own discretion.
