You’ll never miss a Message with the latest iOS 11.4 update

Apple has released its new iOS 11.4 update which offers a significant change for iMessage. If you own multiple Apple devices this feature will keep all your messages in sync and they are all stored in the cloud.

Apart from saving storage space on each individual device, your conversations will be up to date on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac. If you delete a message on one device, it will be deleted automatically for the rest. According to Apple, all conversations are protected by iCloud’s end to end encryption. If you lose your iPhone, your conversations will be restored from the Cloud when you sign in on a new device.

To enable this, just make sure that “Messages” is included in your iCloud backup for all devices. You can go to Settings, tap on your Account Name at the top, tap on iCloud and make sure Messages backup is enabled.

On top of that, iOS 11.4 also enables the long-awaited AirPlay 2. This allows synchronised music playback on multiple AirPlay 2 compatible speakers which include supported models from Bang & Olufsen, Bluesound, Bose, Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Libratone, Marantz, Marshall, Naim, Pioneer and Sonos. That also means you can enjoy stereo pairing with Apple’s very own HomePod speakers.

AirPlay 2 also supports multiroom setup and you can select which speaker to play from via the Control Centre. Alternatively, you can tell Siri to play your music specifically in your bedroom or living room. The update also enables you to make a voice call or play a game on your iPhone without interrupting your music that’s playing through an AirPlay 2-enabled speaker.

The new iOS 11.4 update also brings your usual bug fixes and security updates. If you didn’t get any notification, you can download the update by going into your device’s Settings > General > Software Update.
