BlackBerry will launch the KEY2 next month

It has been confirmed that the new BlackBerry smartphone will be called BlackBerry KEY2. And we know this because BlackBerry Mobile themselves tweeted it. But that’s not all, we also know when this phone will launch.

The previous BlackBerry KEYone showed a lot of potentials. It comes with a 4.5″ (1620×1080) display and a frugal Snapdragon 625 processor under the hood, paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, BlackBerry also launched a Black Edition KEYone which came with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage that is further expandable via a microSD card.

Judging from the renders we saw earlier, we can expect some significant upgrades on the new KEY2 without compromising on what makes this BlackBerry a BlackBerry. For example, it retains the popular QWERTY physical keyboard but it also appears to have an upgraded dual-camera setup at the back.

BlackBerry has always been a unique phone maker with their defining physical QWERTY keyboard. In fact, not only did they maintain this feature on their modern smartphones, they were also able to augment it with modern features, making this an iconic feature in their line of smartphones.

Yes, BlackBerry also had some touch-only smartphones like the DTEK 50 and DTEK 60, and more recently the BlackBerry Motion, but none of those shouts BlackBerry as much as the ones that have the physical QWERTY keyboard on it.

But, with all that hype going around, there are some questions we have to ask.

For instance, how much would it cost? We all know that the previous BlackBerry KEYone was on the expensive side of things, especially considering its internal specs. Will the new KEY2 face the same pricing issue?

It was also mentioned that the BlackBerry KEYone would be the last internal design phone from BlackBerry, does this mean TCL held the reins in the development of the KEY2? BlackBerry is one of the few phones in the past that was able to provide the best handheld experience to its users. Will they be able to replicate that?

Only time will tell. The good news is that you won’t have to wait long because the new BlackBerry KEY2 will launch on the 7th of June 2018 in New York City. Either way, BlackBerry fans will certainly be holding their breath until then.
