UPDATE: OPPO R15 Pro Malaysian launch is taking place on 24 May 2018.
OPPO which is known for its selfie-centric smartphones is finally introducing its higher R series smartphones in Malaysia. For the past year, OPPO Malaysia has focused primarily on its F5 and F7 series, and the last R-series we got was the OPPO R9s. If you’re looking for an OPPO smartphone with better specs and VOOC fast charging, the OPPO R15 will be hitting our shores very soon.
The OPPO R15 is their latest high-end device which was recently introduced in China. It comes with a larger display that has a notch along with dual-cameras at the rear. OPPO has also engaged Karim Rashid to release two striking gradient colour options namely Starry Purple and Dreamy Read.
The OPPO R15 comes in two versions – a standard model and a more premium looking “Dream Mirror” edition. The standard R15 comes with a Mediatek Helio P60 processor while the premium version gets a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 unit. Both are equipped with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
In terms of display, both feature an identical 6.28″ Full HD+ (2280×1080) display on a 19:9 OLED panel. They will also get a 20MP f/2.0 front camera but at the rear, the standard R15 gets 16MP f/1.7 + 5MP f/2.2 dual-cameras while the premium model gets a 16MP f/1.7 + 20MP f/1.7 combo.
Surprisingly, the standard OPPO R15 gets a slightly larger 3,450mAh battery compared to the premium version that has a 3,400mAh capacity. Out of the box, both runs on Android 8.1 with OPPO’s customer ColorOS 5.0 skin on top.
In China, the standard R15 is priced at 2,999CNY (about RM1,868) while the premium red version is priced at 3,299CNY (about RM2,055). The Ceramic Black and Purple versions come with a curved 3D glass back design and they cost more at 3,499CNY (about RM2,180). OPPO Malaysia has not revealed its Malaysian launch date but we reckon it could happen before the Raya celebrations.
