Why pay with cash when you can tap and pay with Visa payWave

This post is brought to you by Visa.

Whether it is dining or shopping, paying by cash can be inconvenient. If you don’t have enough cash, you’ll need to find an ATM and it gets worse if there’s a long queue. If the cash is too large, some cashiers might be reluctant to accept your money.

Why fumble with cash and coins when you can go cashless with Visa payWave? It’s easy and secure, saving you time to focus on things that matter the most.

Tap and Pay at almost everywhere

With Visa payWave, you can make payments pretty much everywhere and there’s no signature required. Just look out for the Visa payWave sign and tell the cashier that you’re paying with Visa payWave. When the terminal is ready, just hold your Visa payWave card against the reader and you’re good to go.

Visa payWave is accepted in almost all major stores across Malaysia and the list is growing. You can also use it overseas, so you can travel with greater peace of mind without having to carry a lot of foreign currency with you. Just look out for the Visa payWave logo and you’re good to go.

Works with any amount

Whether it is RM1 or RM500, you can pay using Visa payWave. You can buy a Sundae Cone from McDonald’s or a bottle of water at MyNews.com convenient stores. Take note that for contactless transactions of RM250 and below, you can simply tap and go. For contactless payments above RM250, you’ll need to tap and enter your PIN number at the terminal.

Pay with your Smartphone

For an even greater convenience, you can also pay with Visa payWave using your smartphone. There’s SamsungPay which supports cards issued by Citibank, Standard Chartered, RHB Bank, Hong Leong Bank, Public Bank and Maybank. If you have an Android device with NFC, there’s MaybankPay, CIMB Pay and UOB Mighty which are also compatible with Visa PayWave. Since you can find Visa merchants everywhere, this is probably the widest supported mobile payment in the country.

Safe and Secure

Visa payWave is just as secure as using a Visa chip card that’s protected by multiple layers of security. Using an advanced cryptographic security, the card will generate a unique code for every transaction, making it impossible for criminals to replicate the card.

There has been false rumours of Visa payWave transactions being prone to digital pickpocketing, but these claims have been refuted by Bank Negara Malaysia. Firstly, Visa payWave transactions can only work when it’s within 4cm of a secure reader and only authorised Visa merchants are able to process transactions made from Visa payWave cards.

For smartphone users, your Visa payWave card is secured with a fingerprint or a PIN number to keep unauthorised users at bay.

If you lose your card, just contact your bank immediately to block your card from unauthorised transactions and ask for a replacement card. If you notice any unusual transactions on your bank statement, report to your bank as soon as possible.

Visa payWave is widely available across credit, debit and prepaid cards that are issued by most banks in Malaysia. For more information, you can visit the Visa payWave page.
