The iPhone SE 2 could be announced next month with a familiar design

The compact iPhone SE is expected to be replaced very soon. Earlier on, it was rumoured to come with a fresh redesign which looks like the iPhone X. According to a new rumour, the new compact iPhone could be announced as early as May and it could retain the same iconic design as before.

The iPhone SE was first introduced in 2016 and it was the most powerful 4″ smartphone you can buy. While it shares the same exterior design as an iPhone 5S, it gets a more powerful A9 chip from the iPhone 6s and it can also shoot 4K videos from its 12MP rear camera. It was a flagship iPhone in a compact size and it was announced 6 months before the iPhone 7 was introduced.

According to Macotakara, the next iPhone SE will retain the same front as the iPhone SE and it will still feature Touch ID instead of FaceID. This matches the early sketches obtained by BGR. Under the hood, it is expected to get an Apple A10 Fusion chip that’s powering the iPhone 7.

Another speculation is that the new iPhone SE may feature a glass back which could make wireless charging possible. Qi Wireless charging is now supported on the latest iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. While it is good that Apple is retaining a home button with fingerprint sensor, the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack is said to be dropped for a cleaner look. If it’s going to be a 4-incher, we hope Apple could bump up the screen resolution to Full HD and perhaps add stereo speakers plus water resistance.

With more people moving on to larger screens, can a 4-inch phone still work in 2018? Would you get the new iPhone SE or settle for an iPhone 7? Let us know in the comments below.
