The OnePlus 6 will get an iPhone X style notch and here’s a sneak peek

OnePlus will be unveiling their next “flagship killer” very soon and many are expecting it to be based on the OPPO R15 since the current OnePlus 5T is identical to the OPPO R11s. Ahead of its big reveal, we now get a clear look at the OnePlus 6 including its controversial “notch” design.

In an exclusive report by The Verge, OnePlus’ co-founder, Carl Pei, has confirmed that the OnePlus 6 will carry a notch at the top of the display. With this approach, OnePlus can add more screen real estate without taking anything away. He added that “What you are essentially doing is moving the entire notification bar up, giving users more content on their screen”.

Without mentioning specifics, Carl Pei believes that the OnePlus 6’s notch is different referring implemented with more thought and care. When refering to the Essential notch, which is the smallest of the lot, he added that OnePlus couldn’t go that small without compromising on the earpiece, front camera, proximity sensors and LED notification light.

So what about the back of the device? Since OnePlus is trying to bring back its classic back designs, the next material might be wood or at least it feels like one to touch.

Serial leakster @evleaks has posted a clear image of the purported OnePlus 6 which comes with a woodgrain line finish at the back. It isn’t clear if it is made out of wood or it’s an added texture on a plastic back. This could be similar to the Bamboo StyleSwap Cover for the OnePlus One. For audio enthusiasts, you’ll be happy to know that the 3.5mm headphone jack is still retained.

If you look further up, it looks like the OnePlus 6 will have a different placement for its fingerprint and dual-cameras. Similar to the latest Galaxy S9+, the fingerprint sensor is mounted at the rear below its camera module. There’s also appears what could be a laser autofocus module which adds a gap between the fingerprint and the rear camera. If this image is real, the OnePlus 6 will not be an exact carbon copy of the OPPO R15, which is a good thing.
