Is this the successor to the Xiaomi Mi A1?

When I think of smartphones that really caught my eye last year, the first phone that comes to mind isn’t any big flagship, despite the fact that it was the year of juggernauts like the Samsung Galaxy Note8 and iPhone X. No, because I wouldn’t buy those phones, they’re just too expensive for someone with my bank account balance.

The phone that really interested me was the Xiaomi Mi A1. Xiaomi’s legendary value-for-money hardware coupled with the slick experience of stock Android? Sign me up.

After the first one launched, I think there was only one thing on everyone’s mind: Will there be a sequel? Well, as it turns out, there very well might be a Mi A2 and this is what it could look like.

This red device you see here broke cover thanks to a TENAA listing with the codename M1804D2SC and many believe that this will be the Mi 6X, the successor to last year’s Mi 5X (released globally as the Mi A1). Therefore, it seems highly likely that there will be an Android One version of this phone too, possibly called the Mi A2.

From the looks of things, this new smartphone will draw a lot of inspiration from the mid-range Redmi Note 5 Pro with the same kind of vertical primary camera module ala iPhone X. The good news is that there doesn’t seem to be a notch on the new 5.99″ 18:9 aspect ratio display.

On the downside, it appears that this new phone will come with a smaller 2,910 mAh battery compared to the Mi A1’s 3,080 mAh cell. However, it’s likely to come with a more efficient processor so we’ll see how that evens out. Xiaomi’s Mi A1 had solid above average battery life so I don’t think they’ll want to change that too much.

In any case, there isn’t a lot of information to work with right now so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens, or if this will even become something like the Mi A2. Things are looking pretty exciting, though.

What do you guys think of this? Do you want a successor to the Mi A1? Let me know in the comments below.
