This could be the new iPad for 2018 and it’s missing one big feature

After radically redesigning the iPhone with the iPhone X, Apple’s next focus would be the iPad. Since its introduction, the iPad has remained the same slab design with some slight tweaks on the bezels as seen on their current iPad Pro series.

While the tablet segment isn’t as hot as before, the iPad still remains the top seller. If you’re looking for a new fresh design, Evan Blass has just shared what appears to be the first clear look of the new iPad which now loses a key iconic feature which was there since its introduction on April 2010.

Below is a leaked image of the new iPad for 2018 which is shown with a case. As you can see, the screen now stretches closer to the edge and it lacks a home button. While the screen to body ratio is definitely higher, the display isn’t as sleek as the iPhone X as it still has squared corners.

With a lack of a home button, Apple is ditching TouchID completely in favour of FaceID. Since the forehead is thick enough, there should be more than enough space to fit its TrueDepth camera without having a notch at the top.

The problem with FaceID on the iPhone X is that it doesn’t work if you’re holding the phone in landscape mode. Hopefully, Apple would have address this limitation on the new iPad.

Fortunately, Apple is still retaining the 3.5mm headphone jack which is located at the top of the device.

This new discovery confirms the earlier speculation that Apple would introduce a new iPad that replaces Touch ID for FaceID. There’s a possibility that Apple might announce this new iPad together with the iPhone SE 2 at their upcoming WWDC 2018.
