Huawei Malaysia to release a budget FullView smartphone that’s powered by Qualcomm

After releasing its teaser, Huawei has finally revealed its latest member of its nova series. It isn’t the flagship-class nova 2s that we hoped for. It’s the nova 2 Lite, a budget alternative to the nova 2i that’s powered by a Qualcomm processor instead of their in-house developed Kirin 659.

The Nova 2 Lite will be introduced in Malaysia officially next Thursday afternoon on 15 March 2018. According to Huawei, the device is catered to both selfie aficionados and mobile photography enthusiasts with its dual camera setup.

The Nova 2 Lite was recently revealed in the Philippines and it will be going on sale in their local market very soon. The device is expected to retail at 11,990 PHP (about RM899), which is 2,000 PHP (RM150) cheaper than the nova 2i which currently caries a 13,990 PHP (about RM1,051) price tag.

In terms of specs, it has a similar 5.99″ display size as the nova 2i but it pushes a lower HD+ 720p resolution of 1440×720. Under the hood, it runs on an entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor that’s mated to 3GB of RAM and it has 32GB of storage which is expandable via microSD.

At the back, it has a familiar a 13MP + 2MP camera combo for depth of field effects, while the front gets a single 8MP f/2.0 selfie shooter. Powering the Nova 2 Lite is a 3,000mAh battery and it also runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0 skin on top. From the pictures above, it looks like the Nova 2 Lite comes with either a glossy mirror back finish similar to the honor 9 Lite or in matte metal like the current nova 2i and honor 7X.

Assuming it’s priced at RM899 in Malaysia, would you get this over the RM749 honor 9 Lite? Or would you rather spend more and get an honor 7X or a Huawei nova 2i?
