Sony will be announcing a couple of new smartphones during MWC 2018 that’s happening next week. Ahead of the big event, Sony has released a teaser that hints a new design change for its next flagship.
Since the first Xperia Z, Sony has always stuck to its omni-balance design which gives it symmetrical and blocky look. It gave Sony Xperia a unique identity but it looks very dated today when compared to the latest crop of smartphones that has a “FullView” display.
Just last month, they had introduced the Sony Xperia XA2/XA2 Ultra that came with a subtle curved for its front and back panels. Both feels more upmarket with the use of more premium materials. From their latest teaser video below, it looks like Sony could be incorportating more curves to its latest smartphone design.
Sony is expected to offer a fresh new design for its upcoming Xperia XZ2 flagship in a hope to make their smartphones desirable again. Following the current trend, at least one model is said to feature a wide-screen 18:9 display aspect ratio with the use of thin bezels for an immersive “FullView” experience.
In the photography department, Sony is expected to experiment with putting two cameras at the back. Their recently announced Xperia XA2 Ultra was their first smartphone with dual-selfie cameras. As seen on their latest XA2/XA2 Ultra, the fingerprint sensor for these new devices could be placed at the rear instead of being embedded on the power button.
The Sony MWC 2018 event is taking place on 26 February at 8:30AM in Barcelona, which is at 3:30PM Malaysian Time. You can catch the event live on their live stream. We will be there on location, so do follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates.
