The Redmi Note 5 Pro’s dual-camera bump looks very familiar

Xiaomi will be announcing its latest mid-range smartphones, the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro, in India this afternoon. These are the successors of the current value for money, Redmi Note 4, and they are setting up the game with a Full Display (18:9) and a new dual-camera setup. After the launch of the iPhone X, the unmistakable vertical dual-camera bump is making its way to more Android phones and from the recent leaks, it appears that the Redmi Note 5 Pro will follow this same design.

As seen here, this is apparently the first live photo of the Redmi Note 5 Pro. It has a familiar iPhone X inspired camera bump which houses two lenses and a flashlight in between. Unlike the iPhone X, the Redmi Note 5 Pro has a sloping frame around the camera module.

Based on the leaked specs provided by GizChina, the Redmi Note 5 Pro will get a 5.99″ 18:9 FullHD+ display and it will run on a more powerful Snapdragon 636 processor that uses Kyro 260 CPU cores.

In terms of variants, there are three for the Indian market – 3GB RAM + 32GB storage, 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 64GB storage. Over at the rear, it has a 12MP f/2.2 + 5MP f/2.0 main cameras, while the front gets a 20MP selfie shooter that has an LED selfie light.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and it is powered by a 4,000mAh battery which still charges via MicroUSB. Out of the box, it runs on MIUI 9 that’s still based on Android 7.0 Nougat.

Both Redmi Note 5 models are expected to be announced at 2.30PM Malaysian Time. You can catch the live stream here.
