Xiaomi’s affordable Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus have officially arrived in Malaysia

UPDATE: It appears that retailer DirectD has removed their Redmi 5/5 Plus product pages and social post.

UPDATE 2: The Redmi 5/5 Plus are now officially on sale in Malaysia.

Xiaomi’s latest Redmi 5 series has finally arrived in Malaysia with official Xiaomi Malaysia warranty. Available in two sizes, the Redmi 5 is priced from RM679, making it one of the most affordable 18:9 smartphones you can buy right now.

The Redmi 5 is officially priced at RM679, while the Redmi 5 Plus is going for RM749. In terms of colours, the Redmi 5 is only available in Gold while the Redmi 5 Plus comes in Gold, Black and Blue. Currently, there’s only one spec for Malaysia which comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage.

To recap on the specs, the Redmi 5 comes with a 5.7″ HD+ display, a Snapdragon 450 processor and a 3,300mAh battery. Meanwhile, the larger Redmi 5 Plus gets a higher 5.99″ FullHD+ display and it runs on a more capable Snapdragon 625 processor that’s powered by a 4,000mAh battery. In terms of camera, both models feature a 12MP main camera, while the front comes with a 5MP selfie shooter.

UPDATE: DirectD has removed their Redmi 5/5 Plus product pages. They have also removed their Facebook posting announcing the availability of Redmi 5 stocks with Xiaomi Malaysia warranty. Below is a screencap of their website and Facebook post before it was pulled down.
