UPDATE 2: The Redmi 5/5 Plus are now officially on sale in Malaysia.

Xiaomi’s latest Redmi 5 series has finally arrived in Malaysia with official Xiaomi Malaysia warranty. Available in two sizes, the Redmi 5 is priced from RM679, making it one of the most affordable 18:9 smartphones you can buy right now.

The Redmi 5 is officially priced at RM679, while the Redmi 5 Plus is going for RM749. In terms of colours, the Redmi 5 is only available in Gold while the Redmi 5 Plus comes in Gold, Black and Blue. Currently, there’s only one spec for Malaysia which comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage.

To recap on the specs, the Redmi 5 comes with a 5.7″ HD+ display, a Snapdragon 450 processor and a 3,300mAh battery. Meanwhile, the larger Redmi 5 Plus gets a higher 5.99″ FullHD+ display and it runs on a more capable Snapdragon 625 processor that’s powered by a 4,000mAh battery. In terms of camera, both models feature a 12MP main camera, while the front comes with a 5MP selfie shooter.

Interestingly, DirectD is still selling import sets and both models are going for RM699. For more information on the Xiaomi Malaysia sets, you can check out these Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus pages at DirectD.

UPDATE: DirectD has removed their Redmi 5/5 Plus product pages. They have also removed their Facebook posting announcing the availability of Redmi 5 stocks with Xiaomi Malaysia warranty. Below is a screencap of their website and Facebook post before it was pulled down.
