These could be Motorola’s new smartphone lineup for 2018

MWC 2018 is happening next month and we expect Motorola to reveal a couple of smartphones like it did last year. Ahead of the big reveal, it appears that Motorola’s new lineup ranging from its affordable Moto G to its flagship Moto Z series has been leaked in its full glory. The folks at DroidLife have gotten several images along with hardware details of selected models.

Moto G6 series

The Moto G series has always been their popular entry to mid-range offering. For 2018, they are ditching its current all-metal design for a 3D glass back look like its current Moto X4. Both the Moto G6 and G6 Plus will get dual-cameras as standard and it even gets a similar camera bump design as the Moto X4.

Bringing both models to 2018, the Moto G6 is said to come with a 5.7″ 18:9 display that does Full HD+ resolution, while the G6 Plus model gets a larger 5.93″ 18:9 screen that also does Full HD+. Under the hood, Moto is bumping the range with a newer 14nm Snapdragon 450 for the entry-level G6, while the G6 Plus gets a better Snapdragon 630 unit.

For the Moto G6, it comes with either 3GB RAM + 32GB of storage or 4GB RAM + 64GB of storage. It has a 12MP + 5MP dual camera at the rear, while the front gets a 16MP selfie shooter. Also retained is a front-mounted fingerprint sensor and powering the G6 is a 3,000mAh battery.

The Moto G6 Plus also gets very similar RAM and storage options as the G6 but it may come with an even higher variant with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The cameras are similar too with a main 12MP+5MP camera combo, plus a 16MP front shooter. The non-removable battery on the G6 Plus is slightly bigger at 3,200mAh.

On top of that, Moto is expected to introduce an additional Moto G6 Play variant as well. The Moto G6 Play is speculated to get a 5.7″ screen with a lower resolution HD+ 720p display but it will get a larger battery with 4,000mAh capacity. The Moto G6 Play doesn’t have a front-mounted fingerprint sensor and it could be emdded on the Motorola logo at the rear.

Moto X5

The Moto X5 will replace the current X4 and it is still Motorola’s premium mid-range offering. While nothing has changed at the rear, the front of the Moto X5 will get a “borderless” 5.9″ 18:9 display that pushes Full HD+ resolution. It also appears to be Motorola’s first smartphone with dual-cameras for both front and back.

If you look carefully at the top, the Moto X5’s display will have a notch like the iPhone X. The battery levels and signal bars appear on each corner, right next to its earpiece and front cameras. Looking at the bottom of the screen, there’s a white bar which could be a substitute for the typical Android on-screen navigation buttons. This might be a software version of its one-button navigation feature where you can swipe left to right to view recent apps and swipe right to left to go back.

There’s no visible fingerprint sensor but it could be embedded on the Motorola logo at the back of the device. On the image above, it also mentions Moto XP as Moto’s Smart AI. We don’t have much details on this feature and we’re guessing it’s the successor for Motorola Experiences.

Moto Z3 series

For 2018, the Moto Z3 gets a subtle redesign but it still retains its support for its modular Moto Mods. Strangely, the Moto Mods pins at the back of the device looks slightly different so we’re not sure if it is compatible with existing mods. Motorola did commit to supporting the current Moto Mods for at least 3 years.

According to Droid Life, both the Moto Z3 and Z3 Play will get a 6″ FullHD+ 18:9 display but there’s a possibility of a higher spec Snapdragon 845 variant that would come with a higher resolution display. Unlike the Moto X5, there’s no notch at the top but it also gets a white bar at the bottom of the screen.

Strangely, we are not seeing any fingerprint sensors in front, and it is unlikely they will move it to the back of the Z3 since the Moto Mods will get in the way. Either Motorola is going for a Face unlocking method or perhaps they might introduce an in-screen fingerprint sensor for the Moto Z3.

Another interesting discovery is a 5G Moto Mod. Apparently, Motorola did mention about a 5G Mod before and this would enable anyone can add 5G capabilities onto existing Moto Z smartphones in a snap. Looking at the screen above, the Mod could be a 5G MiFi add-on that has its own separate battery. 5G is still in its early stage, so we won’t be surprised if it’s exclusive to selected Pre-5G networks.

Among the three series, we expect Motorola to reveal the latest Moto G6 series next month at MWC 2018. For the Moto X5 and Moto Z3, don’t expect them to come out anytime soon as they are usually launched in the second half of the year.
