Samsung has finally launched its new Galaxy A8 (2018) series in Malaysia. These are their new premium mid-range smartphones that offer dual-selfie cameras along with IP68 dust and water resistance. Announced globally last month, the Galaxy A8 (2018) series is priced from RM1,799 which is much lower than we originally expected.
The Galaxy A8 (2018) comes with 5.6″ FullHD+ (2220×1080) SuperAMOLED panel that has an tall Infinity Display 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Like its flagship models, it uses glass for both front and back along with a flush metal frame. Under the hood, it gets an Exynos 7885 Octa-Core processor (2x 2.2GHz + 6x 1.6GHz) that’s mated to 4GB of RAM and it has 32GB of onboard storage which is expandable via microSD.
Samsung wants to elevate your selfie game by offering not one but two selfie cameras up front. It has a 16MP f/1.9 camera plus a secondary 8MP f/1.9 unit for Live Focus. Over at the rear, you get a 16MP f/1.7 main camera with PDAF and the fingerprint sensor is now positioned below the camera lens.
Powering the Galaxy A8 (2018) is a 3,000mAh battery which supports Samsung’s Adaptive Fast Charging via USB-C. Out of the box, it still runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and it comes with addition software features like an Always-on display and Dual Messenger. The Galaxy A8 (2018) also supports Samsung GearVR as well as Samsung Pay.
If you’re looking for something bigger, the Galaxy A8+ (2018) features a larger 6.0″ FullHD+ display and the specs are higher with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The Plus model also gets a larger 3,500mAh battery and the rest of the specs are identical to the smaller 5.6″ Galaxy A8 (2018). In terms of connectivity, both models also support NFC, Bluetooth 5.0 and 802.11ac (2.4GHz/5GHz) WiFi.
The Galaxy A8 is priced at RM1,799, while the bigger Galaxy A8+ is going for RM2,499. Both models are available in Black, Gold and Orchid Grey. The Galaxy A8/A8+ will be on sale starting from 19 January 2018. As an early bird promo, they are bundling a 10,000mAh power bank with USB Type-C connector (RRP: RM228) and a 64GB microSD card (RRP: RM189) for free while stocks last.
