ookyo now offers unlimited YouTube pass for 30 days

ookyo, the digital telco service under Maxis, offers unlimited internet for a collection of apps at RM30/month. This is great for those who primarily use their mobile data for social and music apps. However, for those who stream lots of YouTube videos might find it unappealing as watching YouTube on ookyo will utilise its normal 4GB of high-speed data quota and they only offered unlimited passes for very short durations.

If that’s holding you back, ookyo has introduced a new YouTube unlimited pass that’s valid for 30 days. On top of that, they have also revised the pricing for some of its unlimited apps and data add-on for greater value.

Before this, there were only two YouTube unlimited passes – RM3 for 1 hour and RM8 for 3 hours. If you need more, there’s now an unlimited monthly option of RM12 and the validity follows your current billing cycle. For short-term YouTube streaming, the 1-hour unlimited pass now costs RM1 instead of RM3/hour.

According to their FAQ, the YouTube unlimited pass has a streaming speed cap of 480p which is good enough for Standard Definition videos. This is similar to U Mobile’s Video-Onz streaming quota.

After upgrading its bundled high-speed data from 3GB to 4GB, ookyo has also revised its add-on data pricing as follows:

1 Day (2GB) – RM3/day
1 Week (1GB) – RM8/week

Previously, it costs RM2 for 500MB/hour and RM3 for 1GB/day. Unfortunately, there’s no bigger data option with 30-day validity.

When it comes to unlimited access to specific apps, you can add-on unlimited Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, JOOX and Skype at RM5/month each, instead of its previous price of RM8/month each. For Netflix, there’s still no monthly option and the only pass they have is RM1 for unlimited streaming for 1 hour.

If all you do is primarily social and YouTube, you can get unlimited WhatsApp, WeChat, Snapchat, Pinterest, Facebook, Line, Kakaotalk, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Twitter, YouTube and 4GB of high-speed data at RM42/month (RM30 normal subscription + RM12 YouTube unlimited pass). Is this worth it? Let us know in the comments below.
