When you think business, you think ThinkPad. And their X1 series of devices represent some of the best no-frills laptop experiences in the world. This year, Lenovo’s making them even better than before.
Kicking things off, you’ve got the “conventional” laptop form-factors in the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and ThinkPad X1 Yoga. As the name suggests, one features standard laptop hinge while the other sports at 360-degree one that gives you way more flexibility for your tasks.
Alongside the spec-bump where they sport 8th Generation Kaby Lake R processors (which is a significant increase especially in multi-core performance) as well as up to 1TB of SSD storage and 16GB of RAM, Lenovo’s made some tweaks to bring a little more functionality and pizzazz to these well tailored suits.
The headlining feature is their new displays. Boasting a peak brightness of 500 nits, these 2560×1440 displays now support 100% of the Adobe RGB colour space and now feature Dolby Vision HDR technology. What’s more, there is now also a touch-screen variant (only Full HD resolution) of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, an addition I’m pretty stoked about.
Besides that, there’s also a new 360-degree far-field communication microphone array that supports Wake on Voice and, surprise, surprise, Amazon Alexa built-in alongside Windows 10’s Cortana.
What’s more, both laptops also feature IR cameras for Windows Hello and a brand new privacy feature called ThinkShutter. Fancy name aside, it sounds like this is nothing more than a physical webcam cover that’s built into the laptop. Still, pretty cool, right?
Then, we’ve got the ThinkPad X1 Tablet, for those who want a little more detachment. This new ThinkPad sports a brand new 13-inch 3K display (3000×2000 pixels), updated 8th-gen Intel Core processors and MIL-spec durability like the other two ThinkPad X1s. To make sure you don’t miss a beat, all three of these new ThinkPads will come with global LTE-A connectivity options.
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon will have retail prices starting from USD1,709 (around RM6,852), the ThinkPad X1 Yoga will retail from USD1,889 (around RM7,574) while the ThinkPad X1 Tablet will see prices begin at USD1,599 (around RM6,411).
