Nokia’s first smartphone for 2018 is a mid-range device that does “Bothie”

Nokia has officially revealed its new 2nd generation Nokia 6 for 2018. This is their new mid-range smartphone that replaces its current model that runs on a Snapdragon 430 processor. The new Nokia 6 gets a more capable processor with added features and it’s slightly cheaper than before.

Similar to the first version, the latest Nokia 6 is still made with a single block of series 6000 aluminium. To stand out, it gets a two-colour anodization process for a dual tone look. The black unit gets copper-like highlights, while the silver version has red outlines as shown above.

The display is still a 5.5″ Full HD IPS unit with 2.5D Corning Gorilla glass on top. Under the hood, Nokia is stepping up with a 2.2GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 630 processor that’s mated to 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. Storage comes in either 32GB or 64GB options which are expandable via microSD up to 128GB on a hybrid dual-SIM slot.

For imaging, the rear gets a 16MP f/2.0 PDAF main camera, while the front gets an 8MP f/2.0 selfie shooter. Similar to the Nokia 7 and Nokia 8, it has Bothie mode which allows you to record videos or live stream using both front and rear cameras simultaneously.

The battery capacity remains unchanged with a 3,000mAh unit but this time Nokia has added a USB Type-C port which supports fast charging. According to Nokia, it can do 50% charge in just 30 minutes. For 2018, the new model now gets a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Although this is Nokia’s first new smartphone for 2018, it still runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box but it will be upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo. The Nokia 6 2018 is priced at 1,499 CNY (about RM923) in China and they are accepting pre-orders on 10 January. As a comparison, the first gen Nokia 6 was priced at 1,699CNY and it went on sale in Malaysia at RM999.
