This is the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus

UPDATE:: Xiaomi Redmi 5 series is now official.

Ahead of its big event, Xiaomi has revealed the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in its full glory. These will be their latest affordable smartphones that will come with a taller 18:9 aspect ratio display.

As posted earlier, both will be announced in China this coming Thursday, 7 December 2017. Based on its TENAA certification listing, the Redmi 5 will come with a 5.7″ HD+ 720p display, while the larger Redmi 5 Plus will come with a 5.99″ Full HD+ display. At 5.7″ and above, these will be the largest display on the Redmi series yet.

The official photos match what we saw earlier in its TENAA certification listing. While the front gets a taller display, the back looks like a typical Redmi device with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. It looks like there will be at least 3 colour options – Black, Pink and Blue.

So far Xiaomi has yet to reveal its final specs and pricing. More details will be revealed in a couple of days time and it looks like one of them has already gotten the green light from SIRIM. In typical Xiaomi fashion, you can expect great specs at a competitive price. What do you think of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus? Let us know in the comments below.
