If you have a near debilitating need to keep checking and swiping your phone, a new fidget device is here to help your addiction.
The Substitute Phone, as it is called, is the brainchild of Austrian designed Klemens Schillinger, as a method for helping addicts cope in the absence of their smartphones, especially for the folks who are glued to them 24-7.
It’s hard to find a person who isn’t either face deep in their smartphone or checking them constantly, and the Substitute Phone is designed to help stop this behaviour.
The Substitute Phone comes in five forms, with each made of black polyoxymethylene plastic, with stone beads embedded in them, allowing users to replicate certain actions like pinching, swiping or scrolling.
So they’re basically like fidget spinners for phone addicts.
The Substitute Phones aren’t exactly on sale yet, but were part of an exhibition for the Vienna Design Week called #Offline – Design for the (Good Old) Real World. They should be on sale in the near future, but there’s no real word on exactly when.
