Star Wars season is coming. Soon your timeline is going to be flooded with Star Wars fans raving about the new movie and non-Star Wars fans posting selfies with Vulcan salutes because they are SUCH. BIG. FANS of Star Wars. Are you stoked yet?
Well, get ready to be more stoked because Lenovo‘s got a pair of sexy new Yoga 920s coming your way. Yeah, it’s a Star Wars special edition Yoga 920.
Part of their sexy ultra-thin ultra-portable Yoga lineup, the Yoga 920 is designed to be a powerhouse for mobile elites. This means you can configure the Yoga 920 to pack up to an 8th-gen Intel Core i7-8550U processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB PCIe SSD. You can also have it with up to a 13.9″ 4K UHD IPS display that pushes 3840×2160 pixels.
Being ultra-portable also means that this laptop weighs just 1.37kg and is just 13.95mm thick. However, the most awesome thing about this laptop is of course its watchband hinge which I think is one of the best hinges for the 360-degree 2-in-1 convertible laptop.
The laptop itself is definitely a looker. It’s got really nice slim bezels around the screen and doesn’t feel heavy in the hand despite the metal construction. It’s actually quite gorgeous and I particularly like the shiny rim around the display.
Despite its mostly good looks, I was a little disappointed to find that the top panel is actually glossy glass and not the matte marbled look the poster photos seem to indicate. It’s a fingerprint magnet — like a huge fingerprint magnet.
Its keyboard also feels pretty nice for something so small though the keys are a little mushier than I’d like. Still, keys are nice and big, well spaced and give you a satisfying typing experience overall.
Unfortunately, being so thin and light does mean that Lenovo had to make some compromises. The ports, for example, are more limited than what you’d usually find on a thicker device. For its size though, the laptop has a decent port selection with two USB C ports with Thunderbolt 3 support (one of which charges the laptop too) and a full sized USB port plus a 3.5mm headphone jack.
There are two versions of the limited edition Star Wars Lenovo Yoga 920 available: The Rebel Alliance (white) and the Galactic Empire (black). This laptop has prices starting from RM8,888 and will be available sometime in December. If you’re absolutely not interested in Star Wars, Lenovo says that they’re considering bringing in the normal versions of the Yoga 920 though nothing is concrete just yet.
Alternatively, if you want something more affordable so you can spend more money on a sick Chewbacca mask, Lenovo also has a more affordable offering in the Yoga 720. You do sacrifice some performance because you can only configure this to up to a 7th gen Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB PCIe SSD.
However, you do still get a 4K UHD screen option alongside a 1080p Full HD display though it is a little smaller measuring just 13.3″.
Perhaps the biggest difference is its body because you lose Lenovo’s awesome watchband hinge and the device is slightly thicker. Interestingly, it weighs slightly less, coming in at just 1.25kg.
Finally, for the most budget conscious, you have the Yoga 520. It’s the thickest and heaviest of the three, measuring 19.9mm and 1.74kg heavy, but you can buy this device with a discrete GPU in the form of an NVIDIA GeForce 940MX. Storage options also add a 521GB PCIe SSD + 1TB HDD option too.
Despite its affordable price tag, this laptop has an excellent metal build. I am a little sad that there’s no watchband hinge but the Yoga 520 makes up for that with an awesome keyboard. Not super clicky, but very satisfying with nice comfortable keys that are really well spaced.
The Yoga 72o has prices starting from RM5,599 while the Yoga 520 will retail from RM2,799. These devices are already available for purchase and can be bought at physical Lenovo Multi Brand or Lenovo Exclusive stores, or online at Lenovo’s official Lazada store.
