Razer introduces the ultimate smartphone for gamers

Razer, the name that you often associate with gaming has just released a smartphone of its own. After acquiring Nextbit, here comes the Razer Phone. Nope, it doesn’t come with Chroma lighting but it sure looks like the ultimate mobile gaming device.

As speculated earlier, the Razer Phone comes with a 5.7″ Quad HD (2560×1440) screen that has an insane UltraMotion 120Hz display. That’s a first on a smartphone and the refresh rate is as high as the latest iPad Pro ProMotion display.

At first glance, the Razer Phone looks rather bulky with its thick forehead and chin. However, it does come with a pair of front-facing stereo speakers with dual amplifiers that is enhanced with Dolby ATMOS.

Under the hood, you can expect the best specs crammed onto this 8mm thin gaming slab. It runs on a Snapdragon 835 processor with a whopping 8GB LPDDR4 RAM along with 64GB of UFS storage. If that’s not enough, it also accepts microSD up to 2TB. Since gaming can really turn up the heat, the Razer phone claims to have the best in class thermal design to reduce throttling for maximum performance at all times.

In terms of photography, it gets a dual-camera setup at the rear with dual PDAF. The first unit is a 12MP f/1.75 camera for normal shots while the secondary 12MP f/2.6 shooter is used for zoom. For selfies, it comes with an 8MP f/2.0 shooter.

Since gaming is power intensive, the Razer Phone comes with a massive 4,000mAh battery which supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ via USB Type C. Unfortunately, there’s no headphone jack but Razer is supplying a USB Type-C to 3.5mm dongle that comes with a THX certified DAC.

At the moment, the Razer Phone is running on Android 7.1 with Nova Launcher Prime installed but it will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo in early 2018. The Razer Phone will be released in US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Denmark and Sweden on 17 November and pre-orders are now open. It is officially priced at US$699.99 (about RM2,959). The pricing looks pretty decent especially with the hardware it’s packing. What do you guys think?
