Huawei Mate 10 Pro smashes the iPhone 8 in this camera test

Yet another smartphone has been put through DxOMark’s gauntlet. The latest contender is Huawei‘s brand new Mate 10 Pro and it looks like the camera testing site was pretty impressed with the device because it is currently the second best smartphone camera they’ve ever tested.

Huawei’s Mate 10 Pro scored stellar marks in both their video and camera tests, though, it was the smartphone’s performance in still photography that earned it its high score. The new device achieved a total score of 97 points which means it slides in right behind the Google Pixel 2 (98) as the second-best overall performer. This also means the Mate 10 Pro decisively beats the Samsung Galaxy Note8 (94), Apple iPhone 8 (92) and Apple iPhone 8 Plus (94).

DxOMark was impressed at the Mate 10 Pro’s implementation of the dual-camera system stating that they were impressed with the phone’s zoom and bokeh despite both lenses being the same focal length. They were also impressed with the smartphone’s video capabilities (especially the autofocus and video stabilisation) but noted that it was not quite as stellar as the handset’s photo performance.

Looking at the breakdown, Huawei’s new flagship edges the Google Pixel 2 (99) and iPhone 8 Plus (96) out in the photography department, scoring a respectable 100 points. This ties the device with Samsung’s Galaxy Note8. What gives it the edge over both the Note8 and iPhone 8, though, is its video performance. DxOMark awarded the smartphone with a video score of 91, pushing it past the iPhone 8 Plus’ video score of 89 and the Note8’s score of 84.
