This is how much the Mate 10/10 Pro would cost in Malaysia

Huawei‘s finally shown its hand. The Chinese company has released its most capable smartphone of the year and on paper it definitely impresses. However, the crucial thing about the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro is their price. With how expensive this year’s crop of flagship smartphones have gotten, one has to wonder what price tag Huawei wants to slap on this device.

The answer? In Malaysia, it might be lower than you think.

In Europe, the Mate 10 is priced at EUR699 (around RM3,479) while the Mate 10 Pro will retail at EUR799 (around RM3,980). If you want an even more special Mate 10, you can opt for the Porsche Design variant, but that will set you back a wallet-wilting EUR1,395 (around RM6,949).

Looking at those numbers, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the Mate 10 will have prices rivaling those from Samsung’s flagships but a reliable source informs us that that’s not the case.

According to our source, the Huawei Mate 10 will be priced at RM2,699 which means that the phone will retail for exactly the same kind of money as the Mate 9 it succeeds. It’s also about RM800 cheaper than what it’s retailing for in Europe.

To make things even jucier, our source also tells us that the Mate 10 Pro which bumps memory up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage will also be priced even lower than its predecessor the Mate 9 Pro. Now, we didn’t get a solid number, but the Mate 9 Pro was priced at RM3,399 when it launched so we think the Mate 10 Pro will be around the RM3,199 or RM3,299 mark.

If this actually turns out to be the official price, these would be tantalising price points for the new flagships. For example, the Mate 10 features comparable specs to Samsung’s Galaxy S8 (2K screen, flagship processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage) plus a bigger battery, but is a whopping RM600 cheaper.

Of course, this hasn’t been officially announced by Huawei Malaysia just yet, though we are pretty confident in our sources at least as far as the Mate 10’s price is concerned. Either way, it looks like everything will be revealed very, very soon.
