You’ve heard of Android Pay, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. Well, it looks like there’s going to be a new Pay in the game and that Pay is called Sarawak Pay. Yep, Bank Negara has just approved Sarawak’s own cashless payment system.

For now, there aren’t many details surrounding Sarawak Pay beyond the fact that Bank Negara has approved of this service. However, from the reports, it does seem like Sarawak Pay will be a cashless payment service that’s similar to the likes of Android Pay. There’s talk of an application and will allow for payments for local government services like property assessment rates.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg also said that the system would focus on “government services and transactions with business premises under the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SDEC)”.

According to the Chief Minister, the system will roll out next year (2018), with a testing phase being conducted in Kuching before it is rolled out state-wide. The state is working with Huawei to develop the digital payment system.

What do you guys think of Sarawak Pay? Do we need another separate payment system in our country? Let me know in the comments below.
