We’ve seen many things being attached to a smartphone. There are projectors, FLIR cameras and even walkie talkies. In a country where deadly diseases are spread by mosquitoes, LG has introduced the world’s first smartphone that comes with a built-in mosquito repellent feature.
With its Mosquito Away Technology, the LG K7i provides you with personal protection from those pesky mosquitoes. It keeps insects away by emitting an ultrasonic sound wave above 30kHz which is above the normal human hearing range (20Hz-20,000Hz).
There are no messy liquids or odours to deal with and everything is done electronically from your smartphone. It uses a special Mosquito Away cover which is user replaceable. If you don’t need this mosquito repellent feature, you can always swap it for a normal back cover.
Spec-wise, the KG K7i is a rather entry-level smartphone that’s aimed at the masses. You get a 5″ 854×480 IPS display and it runs on an unspecified 1.1GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage. There’s also an 8MP rear and 5MP front camera plus a removable 2,500mAh battery.
The LG K7i is priced at 7,990INR in India which is about RM513 if converted directly. Do ultrasonic repellents work better than off the shelf lemongrass sprays? We’re not too sure. What do you guys think?
