Xiaomi is launching a flagship dual-camera smartphone next week

The Xiaomi Mi 6 is the most affordable Snapdragon 835 powered flagship smartphone you can buy right now. On top of that, it gets a dual-camera setup which comes with a telephoto lens capable of 2X optical zoom. Now Xiaomi has teased that a new flagship dual-camera smartphone will be launched globally next week. Is there room for another flagship phone?

The new device will be revealed next week, 5th September in New Delhi and this should be the same device teased earlier this month. As shown in the picture above, you can see two different lens sizes which probably means it has one telephoto and one normal wide-angle lens.

In case you’re wondering, this is highly likely to be their new Mi 5X for international markets. It is basically a mashup of a Redmi Note 4 and a flagship Mi 6. To recap, it features a 5.5″ Full HD display encased in a unibody metal body. Under the hood, you’ll find a familiar Snapdragon 625 processor, 4GB RAM and at least 32GB of storage.

In the camera department, it gets the same 12MP + 12MP camera combo as the Mi 6, while the front gets a 5MP camera. Instead of a 4,100mah battery found on the Redmi Note 4, the Mi 5X will come with a smaller 3,080mAh capacity unit that charges via USB Type-C. Fortunately, Xiaomi has retained a 3.5mm audio jack on the Mi 5X. In China, the Mi 5X is selling from 1,299CNY (about RM835) for the 32GB model and we think it would go for less than RM1,000 once it hits our shores.

Does it deserve to be called a flagship? Well, Xiaomi did something similar two years ago with the Mi 4i and unfortunately, it didn’t really meet expectations. Hopefully, this time they can get it right and we think the Mi 5X is more of a premium mid-range device.
