If you’re on a tight budget, Xiaomi has heaps of entry-level phones but almost all of them feature a modest 5.0″ HD 720p display. Want something bigger? There’s the Redmi Note 4 that offers a 5.5″ full HD screen with price starting from RM799.
For those looking for a 5.5″ smartphone at a lower price, Xiaomi is about to introduce its new Redmi Note 5A. According to rumours, this could be priced at 999 CNY which is about RM642.
In terms of specs, the Redmi Note 5A has a 5.5″ HD 720p display and it runs on an entry-level Snapdragon 425 processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage. This is clearly a downgrade from its current Redmi Note 4 and the “A” is more of an affordable alternative to its upcoming Redmi Note 5.
Over at the rear, the device will feature a 13MP main camera while the front comes with a 5MP selfie shooter. Powering the Note 5A is a 3,000mAh battery and it is expected to run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with MIUI 9 skin on top.
It also appears that the Redmi Note 5A has a higher-spec option as well. Under the hood, it runs on a Snapdragon 435 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage. In terms of optics, this model may come with a higher-resolution 16MP selfie shooter with soft-flash. Looking at its TENAA China certification listing, the higher-spec model has a fingerprint sensor at the rear, which is lacking on the lower-spec option.
Both models will come with microSD expansion and unlike its newer generation of smartphones, this Redmi Note 5A will have a dedicated microSD slot alongside with dual-SIM slots. The Redmi Note 5A is expected to be revealed in China end of today and we are not sure if they would bring this to our shores soon. We’ll update this post as soon as we get more info.
