Samsung will be unveiling its Galaxy Note8 next week and it appears that the South Korean smartphone maker will also be introducing a new fitness band at the end of this month. This isn’t an all new model and it looks more like an incremental upgrade to its Gear Fit2.
These leaks came from Evan Blass, the same person that spilled the beans on the upcoming Galaxy Note8. As pictured above, it looks quite identical to last year’s Gear Fit2 but Samsung has made some notable tweaks to its design and functionality.
Firstly, the strap band now uses a more traditional buckle design which is more secure than its current loop and snap-on clasp form. This should prevent it from falling off your wrist during rigorous workouts.
Improving on its waterproofing, the Gear Fit2 Pro will get 5 ATM water resistance which allows it to be submerged to around 40-50 metres under water. Since you can now swim with it, the fitness band can also track your swimming workouts and it syncs with the Speedo On app.
On the original Gear Fit2, it came with Spotify app support (not supported in Malaysia at time of review) and this new Gear Fit2 Pro takes it a step further with support for offline playback. Hopefully this time, Samsung’s Tizen platform will have better worldwide app availability than before. Also included is built-in heart rate sensor and GPS which allows you to better track your workouts standalone. Like its predecessor, it will support both iOS and Android, but we reckon it is still best paired with a Samsung Galaxy device.
The Gear Fit2 Pro might be teased during the Galaxy Note8 launch but it is highly likely to make its official debut in Berlin during IFA 2017 which is just a couple of weeks away.
