Apple discontinues their tiny iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano

The day has finally arrived. Apple has killed the iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano today, which are some of the smallest and most popular music players ever existed. This comes right after the original iPod Classic was discontinued two years ago on September 2014. As the world is moving towards a music subscription model, traditional offline music players are beginning to lose its relevance in this day and age.

Apple iPod sales have been declining for the past few years and it is safe to assume that most people would use their current smartphones as their main media consumption device. Furthermore, the iPod Shuffle and Nano are not compatible with Apple Music that offers unlimited music streaming across all your devices for a monthly RM14.90/month fee or RM22.90/month for the whole family (up to 6 people).

However, that’s not the end for the iPod family. The current 6th gen iPod Touch is still hanging around and it will be upgradable to the upcoming iOS 11. To simplify their iPod Touch offering, Apple is only selling the 32GB and 128GB models at RM919 and RM1,379 respectively.

It gets a 4″ 1136×640 display and it runs on an Apple A8 chip that’s powering the iPhone 6. It also comes with an 8MP main camera and a 1.2MP front facing Facetime HD shooter. If you’re interested, both are available on the Apple Online store. For those who still wants to get the iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano, you should be able to get them from existing retailers while stocks last.

Do you own an iPod Nano or iPod shuffle? Let us know in the comments below if you’re still using them today.
