UPDATE: Microsoft confirms that the new Surface Pro for 2017 will be officially available in Malaysia starting 15 August 2017.

The 5th generation Microsoft Surface Pro has finally arrived in Malaysia. This convertible 2-in-1 laptop was first announced a few months ago and you can now secure your unit online from as low as RM3,699.

The new Surface Pro models for 2017 are now running on Intel’s 7th generation processors ranging from Core m3 to the highest Core i7. Both the Core m3 and Core i5 models are now fan-less for a more silent operation.

The display is a 12.3″ PixelSense unit that boasts a pixel density of 267 ppi. Despite being similar as the previous Surface Pro 4, the new model offers 50% more battery life than its predecessor with a claimed 13.5 hours on a single charge.

The base model gets 4GB RAM and 128GB of storage and it goes all the way up to 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage. For Malaysia, your storage option maxes out at 512GB. In terms of ports, you get a headphone jack, a cover port, Surface Connector, a mini DisplayPort, microSD card slot and a full sized USB 3.0 Type-A. Nope, there’s no USB Type-C or Thunderbolt 3 port with the 2017 Surface Pro.

The Surface Pen which was included in the past generations is now an optional item. It costs RM299 and it supports 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity as well as tilt sensitivity.

UPDATE: Microsoft Malaysia says the new Surface Pro will be available at local Surface authorized retailers and Microsoft Online Store in Lazada on 15 August 2017.

The Surface Pro, Type Covers and Arc Mouse are listed to be available on 17 August while the new Surface Pen is expected to arrive on 24 August 2017. For the Type Cover Keyboard, you have 3 colour options – Blue, Burgundy and Platinum that comes with an Alcantara finish.

If you don’t mind the previous generation model, the Surface Pro 4 with Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM and 128GB of storage is going for RM3,815. That comes with a Free Type Cover but without a Surface Pen.
