Motorola launches the Z2 Play and a wide range of smartphones in Malaysia

Motorola is introducing not one, not two but five new Android smartphones in Malaysia. Besides the headlining Moto Z2 Play, Motorola is also bringing its affordable Moto E4 and Moto C series into our local market.

Moto Z2 Play

The Moto Z2 Play is Motorola’s newest modular smartphone which succeeds the Moto Z Play. Like its predecessors, it also supports a growing list of Moto Mods which allows you to add new features in a snap. The Moto Z2 Play gets a 5.5″ Full HD Super AMOLED display and it runs on a Snapdragon 626 processor that’s mated to 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage (expandable via microSD).

At the back it gets a 12MP f/1.7 dual-pixel camera while the front gets a 5MP f/2.2 unit. The Moto Z2 Play comes with a 3,000mAh battery which charges quickly via USB Type-C. For Malaysia, the Moto Z2 Play is going for RM1,999 and it comes in either Lunar Grey or Fine Gold. It will also be running Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box.

As a special promo, the first 1,000 customers will get an exclusive gift box which consists of a Carbon Fibre Style Cap, Moto Z2 Play Metal Phone Frame, Motorola Selfie Stick and Nano Liquid Film worth RM299 while stocks last.

Moto E4 and E4 Plus

For those looking for something more affordable than the Moto G5 Plus, Motorola has also introduced the Moto E4 and E4 Plus in our local market. The Moto E4 comes with a 5″ 720p HD display while the E4 Plus comes with a larger 5.5″ HD 720p display.

They’re both powered by a MediaTek MT6737 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz though memory configurations do vary. The E4 will come with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage while the E4 Plus will sport 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage (both expandable via microSD).

Moto E4 Plus also features a Dolby Atmos speaker setup plus a more capable 13MP f/2.0 and 5MP f/2.4 rear-front camera combo. On the E4, you only get an 8MP f/2.2 rear camera and a 5MP f/2.0 front camera without a Dolby Atmos speaker setup. Both, however, will feature fingerprint scanners.

In terms of battery, the Moto E4 comes with a 2,800mAh capacity while the E4 Plus is bigger at 5,000mAh. The Moto E4 is priced at RM639 and it is available in Iron Grey and Blush Gold. Meanwhile, the Moto E4 Plus is priced at RM799 and it comes in Iron Grey and Fine Gold. Both phones will come running Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

Moto C and C Plus

The Moto C is the most affordable of the lot with starting price of just RM399. It gets a low resolution 5″ 854×480 display and it is powered by a 1.1GHz MediaTek MT6737m processor with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD). Powering the Moto C is a modest 2,350mAh battery. We are getting the dual-SIM model and it comes in two colours – Starry Black and Pearl White — though only Slot A will support 4G and Slot B will only support 2G.

For picture-taking purposes, the Moto C will sport a 5MP rear camera with an f/2.4 aperture lens with 1.4 micron pixels and a 2MP f/2.8 aperture selfie shooter in front.

The Moto C Plus is also a 5″ device but it gets a higher HD 720p resolution and a higher clocked 1.3GHz MT6737 processor. RAM gets bumped to 2GB but internal storage remains the same at 16GB. It is still expandable via microSD, which is good. It gets a 8MP f/2.2 rear camera and a front facing 2MP f/2.8 selfie shooter.

Keeping it powering for long is a 4,000mAh battery which is rated to last up to 30 hours on a single charge. The Moto C Plus is priced at RM539 and it comes in Starry Black and Fine Gold. Both devices will come with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.
