The most affordable flagship phablet will launch in Malaysia next month

If you’ve been holding out for a value-for-money powerhouse phablet, you won’t have to wait much longer because honor Malaysia is bringing in their most powerful handset yet — the honor 8 Pro.

Today, honor Malaysia revealed that they will be launching this brand new phablet smartphone locally in July. However, they did not mention a specific date so you’ll have to stay tuned for that.

Also known as the honor V9, this actually marks the first time honor brings their phablet V series smartphone into Malaysia — and the V9 (or honor 8 Pro) is not messing around when it comes to performance.

Inside, you’ve got a top-of-the-line Kirin 960 octa-core processor mated to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. You can further expand that storage with a microSD card. You will, however, have to give up your second SIM slot if you want to do so because it uses a hybrid SIM tray. The good news for those who don’t like smudgy glass phones is that the honor 8 Pro will come with an all metal body.

Besides that, the smartphone also features a pair of 12-megapixel cameras (one RGB, one monochrome) similar to the one you’d find on last year’s Huawei P9 and honor 8. However, like the honor 8, it will not have any “Leica” branding on it. In front, you get an 8-megapixel selfie camera for those crucial Instagram updates.

One aspect that bumps it above most of the phones even on Huawei’s flagship lineup is a big 5.7-inch Quad HD display with a pixel density of 515 ppi. That means it’s even bigger than the Huawei P10 Plus. To keep all of it running, honor has bundled a large 4,000 mAh battery inside with support for 9V2A fast charging.

We don’t know exactly how much this smartphone will cost when it eventually lands in Malaysia but if we’re going off its price in China of CNY2,999, the honor 8 Pro could very well be priced under RM2,000. If that’s truly the case, the honor 8 Pro is definitely a compelling smartphone even when compared to something like the RM2,499 Xiaomi Mi Note 2.
