Looks like Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 will launch at the end of August

Samsung Galaxy S8+

Easily one of the most anticipated smartphone launches of the second half of 2017 is Samsung‘s successor to the Galaxy Note7. After the incident with last year’s Note, many were wondering if the launch of the Note 8 would be delayed.

Unfortunately, it will be delayed, but the good news is that we now have what looks like an official date for the Note 8’s Unpacked event a.k.a the Note 8’s official launch.

According to Naver, a Samsung Electronics official revealed to them that the Galaxy Note 8 will be launched at a Samsung Unpacked event on the 26th of August 2017 in New York, USA. This comes despite earlier rumours hinting at a launch during this year’s IFA 2017 in Berlin.

It’s worth noting that if this does turn out to be the case, the Note 8 would launch more than three weeks later than last year’s Note7 which saw global debut on the 2nd of August 2016.

Still, this launch window puts the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 launch well ahead of the usual time frame Apple uses to launch their brand new iPhones. This year, Apple will reportedly launch the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus alongside a special 10th Anniversary Edition “iPhone 8” that features an all-screen front panel with Touch ID built into the screen.

On the other hand, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 has been rumoured to not feature an in-screen fingerprint scanner, because of a display brightness issue, and will instead be relying on a rear-mounted one like we have on the current Galaxy S8 and S8+. However, the Note 8 has been rumoured to come with a few incremental updates over the S8 phones including a 6.3-inch Infinity Display, dual cameras plus, of course, an upgraded S Pen. One feature many might be unhappy with that will be making an appearance on the Note 8 is the Bixby Button. Beyond that, details remain scarce though we don’t expect the Note 8 to objectively worse than the S8 or S8+.
