If you don’t want to pay a premium for the Mi Max 2, it could be coming to Malaysia officially very soon. A device with the model number MDE40 has just passed SIRIM certification and this is confirmed to be Xiaomi’s new affordable large-screen phablet.
To refresh your memory, the Mi Max 2 has a gigantic 6.44″ Full HD display and it comes with a unibody metal design. It runs on a 14nm Snapdragon 625 Octa-Core processor like the Redmi Note 4 and it is mated to 4GB of RAM. You have storage options of either 64GB or 128GB which can be expanded further via microSD.
For imaging, it gets a 12MP f/2.2 main camera with PDAF and dual-tone LED flash, while the front gets a 5MP f/2.0 selfie shooter. The Mi Max 2 comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and it also features stereo sound using both the earpiece and down-firing loudspeaker.
Matching that huge screen is a 5,300mAh battery which supports QuickCharge 3.0 via USB Type-C. Despite having a large capacity, you can charge it up to 68% in an hour. Compared to the previous Mi Max, expect to pay more this time as Xiaomi has removed the 32GB storage option and it comes with a minimum of 64GB of storage. In China, the 64GB model is priced at 1,699CNY (about RM1,064) while the 128GB model is going for 1,999CNY (about RM1,252).
Not too long ago, the Xiaomi Mi 6 flagship was also spotted on our SIRIM database. From what we know so far, both the Mi 6 and the Mi Max 2 have yet to go on sale officially outside its home market in China. According to a report, it is possible that the Mi 6 and Mi Max 2 could be making its debut in India sometime in July. Hopefully, we can see some hints from Xiaomi Malaysia after the Raya holidays.
