Celcom, TuneTalk and webe customers face service interruptions

This morning it appears that Celcom customers were facing network issues nationwide. This not only affects Celcom Postpaid and Xpax customers but also other MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) and Domestic Roaming partners that utilise their network nationwide.

TuneTalk

TuneTalk is an MVNO that operates using Celcom’s network and they have briefly updated that they are currently facing network issues. They had apologised for any inconvenience caused and will update as soon as it has been rectified.

red ONE

Similar to TuneTalk, red ONE is also an MVNO on Celcom’s Network. They have also updated that voice calls will be affected by this interruption.

Webe

According to webe, customers will face problems with voice calls and data while on 2G/3G. Celcom is webe’s domestic roaming partner which would allow its subscribers to stay connected in areas where webe’s 4G LTE coverage isn’t available.

Celcom

Just a while ago, Celcom has acknowledged there was a network outage that started at 7:00AM which affected incoming and outgoing calls. They added that the issue was fixed at 09:30AM and it should be rectified for customers in West Malaysia. For those in East Malaysia, service should be restored within the next hour.

According to Celcom, the outage was caused by a troubled network upgrade. From what we understand, Celcom is currently upgrading their network to deliver up to 400Mbps on LTE Advanced. We were told by their Deputy CEO that there will be no disruptions like its previous network modernisation exercise. The last time they had a major outage was in late April where customers had problems accessing Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram. As a gesture of goodwill, Celcom had provided free access to Facebook and Twitter for a week.

Were you affected? Let us know if your voice and data connection has been restored.
