The Mi Max 2 with its mammoth 5,300mAh battery is now on sale in Malaysia

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is probably the best smartphone if you’re looking for a large smartphone with a huge battery. With its even larger 5,300mAh battery and a frugal Snapdragon 625 processor, Xiaomi says you can easily last 2 days on a single charge. It was launched about two weeks ago and now you can get your hands on one in Malaysia.

As usual, DirectD has started offering imported units of the Mi Max 2 in Malaysia with a retail price of RM1,499. This is for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version which comes only in Gold. Since it is an early import set, it is priced higher than its official China pricing which is going for 1,699CNY (about RM1,057) for the same 64GB model or 1,999CNY (about RM1,243) for the 128GB storage variant.

To recap on the specs, the Mi Max 2 gets a 6.44″ Full HD display and it is powered by a 14nm Snapdragon 625 Octa-Core processor that’s also powering the Redmi Note 4. In terms of build, it gets a more refined unibody metal design with curved antenna lines that looks inspired by the iPhone 7.

For better video enjoyment, the Mi Max 2 now gets stereo speakers that utilises both earpiece and down-firing loud speaker. It also retains a headphone jack and it now charges via USB Type-C. The Mi Max 2 also supports QuickCharge 3.0 and you can charge 68% of its 5,300mAh battery in just one hour.

In terms of optics, it gets a 12MP f/2.2 Sony IMX386 main camera with PDAF and dual-tone LED flash, while the front sports a 5MP f/2.0 selfie shooter. The Mi Max 2 can shoot 4K videos and 720p slow-mo videos at 120fps. It’s also a dual-SIM device that uses a hybrid SIM design accepting either two SIM-cards or one SIM + microSD.
